I'm an award-winning public radio journalist. I currently work for Jefferson Public Radio in Ashland, Oregon. My work has been featured on National Public Radio, The World, The California Report and stations across the Pacific northwest.

Experience

Regional Reporter

Jefferson Public Radio

With extensive regional knowledge of the Pacific Northwest, I returned to Jefferson Public Radio in Ashland, Oregon as a reporter and producer, focusing on the unique issues that face the region in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Jefferson Public Radio also partners with other stations throughout the Pacific Northwest as part of the Northwest News Network, where my regional reporting helps educate listeners across a wide area.

Report for America

Report For America is a fellowship program that places service-oriented journalists in under-served communities across the country. There are 260 journalists based in 49 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. I was placed at Delaware Public Media in Dover, Delaware, where I focused on politics, elections and legislation activity at the local, county and state levels.

NextGen Radio Fellow

NPR's Next Generation Radio

The Next Generation Radio Project is a week-long “pop-up” digital journalism and audio training project designed to give competitively selected participants the opportunity to report and produce their own non-narrated, multimedia story. Those chosen for the project are paired with a professional journalist who serves as their mentor for the week. The theme for this project was ‘first days,’ how an immigrants first days in The U.S. transformed their lives. We reported on the Meadowview community in Sacramento, California.

I reported at JPR in 2019 as part of the Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism. 16 competitively selected journalists were selected from colleges across Oregon with career goals in journalism and were paired with newspapers, radio stations and media outlets across the state. Students work closely with their editor to develop their journalism skills and gain real world experience in journalism.

Station manager

KBVR FM

KBVR FM is one of the leading college radio stations in the country. Over 140 volunteer radio DJs play music from every genre, host talk shows, and produce podcasts for the Corvallis community.

As the station manager, I had the responsibility of managing those DJs, as well as a staff of 4 others that I hired to help the station. I was in charge of everything at the station. I was guided by a broadcast coordinator, Steven Sandberg, who helped me throughout my time as manager.

I helped to create new podcasts, like Making Waves, a collaboration with the Asian and Pacific Islander Cultural Center. That podcast was awarded the best podcast award by the College Media Association. During my time as manager, the station was also named as one of the best college radio stations in the country by the CMA.
